Mira is a custom build for singer/songwriter Lauren Oxford. This guitar has a redwood top and walnut back and sides. Lauren’s dad cut the redwood tree in 1980, and also the walnut tree. Using tone woods supplied by her dad was really special to her and a challenge to tame.
The back has a serious burl that caused quite a dilemma. When it was thicknessed, the back became unstable. A walnut veneer was vacuum-pressed on the inside and that solved the instability. I was not able to put a live back in this guitar because the frequency numbers varied depending on where it was tested. Thus, a standard reflective back was used.
